Parenting Panel

Hi Everyone!

It’s been such a lonnnnng time! I have so much to fill you in on, but this post will be short, since I still have to workout before the kids wake up (more on that next week). At the beginning of this semester, my sister asked if I wanted to be on a parenting panel.  I was like, “Sure. Why not? It will get me out of the house!” So today was the day. I had everything planned out, the kids were dressed, lunch was packed, and the stroller was stowed in the van.  I put on clothes that made me not look like a mom- i.e. no yoga pants. I put on make up,which made feel like a regular person. We trekked down to the Ohio State campus, had an awkward lunch in a university building and made our way to the class.

I did take both children, so I was not sure how this was going to go. Luckily the professor had toys and such, which ViVi jumped on immediately. Sasha was perfectly happy chewing on his baby food containers.

The panel consisted of me and 4 other women who had children under 4.  The class asked questions about preparing for birth, father’s roles in parenting, disciplining, successes in parenting, and more.  It was really good for me to see other moms talk about their journeys in parenting because I don’t get to be around different parenting styles often. It was also great to be able to impart some of my “mom wisdom” on these young people.  My prayer is that my words will have some lasting effect on even just one of the students as they work with children and have children of their own. Too bad I can just talk about how I parent for a living.  It would be so easy!

My Stroller Has Arrived

I have been looking forward to this day almost since finding out I was pregnant for the second time. My double jogging stroller is here, assembled and ready to roll around the city. Again, I landed on buying the Baby Trend Navigator Double Jogging Stroller. I already have a Baby Trend car seat and their Expedition Single Jogging Stoller. I chose this stroller in particular because it can house a car seat and a toddler together.

I took it for a test ride right before lunch time. Violet thoroughly enjoyed herself (I’ve been blessed with a child who loves riding in the stroller for extended periods of time.) As I walked with both of them contained in one walking device, I felt a sense of liberating independence. Who knew a stroller could make me feel this way? If you are a mom you probably did 😉

A Family on the move!
A Family on the move!

I made a plan with my husband to put it together with him this evening, but that meant staring at the box on my front porch for hours wishing I could use it. So I made the decision to put it together myself. Although the instructions looked complicated, it only took me 30 minutes to put it together. Luckily Violet was watching Sesame Street, and Sasha was sleeping. I put a gallery together that highlights the steps in assembling the stroller.

My initial review is that the stroller is great and operates pretty much like their single jogging stroller. I can’t wait to go to the zoo next week. It will be so nice to only deal with one device for the both of them. I hope I’m not boring you too much, but these are the things The Choleric Mom dreams about.

Being a Good Steward of Your Family

I’ve mentioned in my little bio that my husband and I are a part of a great Christian fellowship. This group is called Xenos Christian Fellowship and it hosts an awesome conference called Xenos Summer Institute (or XSI) every summer. The conference includes keynote speakers along with workshops that follow a certain theme. This year’s theme is “Things to Come” and focuses on our eternity with God and the fact that we can earnestly look forward to it. My sister, Jasmine, was very kind and allowed me to go to a workshop while she babysat Violet. With Sasha in the MOBY we trekked through the woods running late (as always) from a parking lot to an auxiliary auditorium. I went to a workshop entitled “Being a Good Steward of Your Family” taught by Ben Foust who is a part of Xenos. The workshop was great and I learned a lot about want it means to be a good steward in terms of family. One of the best things about his teaching was that Foust made a point to talk equally about raising children and maintaining a good marriage. Once the teachings are online I will update this post with a link to the recording, but for now I will tell you some things I learned:

1. Being a steward means taking care of something that is not yours, and God is the true, ultimate, eternal owner of my family. It is my job to take care of them so that they know who He is.

2. I should have a vision for each of my children, my spouse, and my family as a whole.

Like I said earlier the teaching was great and there is so much more I would like to share but that would be too much for me right now.

I will just leave you with two books that Foust referenced during his teaching. If you are interested in the subject, I encourage you to take a look at these and to listen to the teaching when it becomes available.

New Stroller!

I just ordered my new double jogging stroller from Amazon. After a lot of research I landed on the Baby Trend Navigator double jogging stroller. I chose this one because of capabilities and experience. This stroller can hold a toddler and a car seat at the same time (imperative with a 1 month-old and a 22 month-old). I have been using their single jogging stroller as long as Violet has been around with great results and I know my Baby Trend car seat will fit. I will give a full review one it arrives 🙂
